Rare case of pediatric calcaneal osteosarcoma masquerading as a cystic lesion

Abstract Background Although osteosarcoma remains the most common primary malignant neoplasm in bone pediatric age group, involvement of foot is extremely rare. Case presentation Our case demonstrates what appeared to be a cyst calcaneus at an outside institution after injury ankle. The patient was sent our for further workup where Computed Tomography scan revealed permeative lytic lesion with faint calcifications. Based on patient’s radiograph, aneurysmal might included differential diagnosis. A telangiectatic can also demonstrate cystic and appearance radiographs. Interestingly biopsy confirmed had osteoblastic osteosarcoma. Conclusions high degree suspicion often necessary diagnosis calcaneal osteosarcoma, especially setting injury, should not overlooked.
